Low-Level Laser Therapy (Cold Laser)

Low-Level Laser Therapy (Cold Laser)

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as cold laser therapy, is a cutting-edge treatment that uses low-intensity laser or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate healing in cells. Unlike surgical or high-heat lasers, low-level lasers do not cut or burn tissue. Instead, they penetrate the skin with specific wavelengths of light, triggering biological effects at the cellular level that reduce inflammation and encourage tissue repair.

What does this mean for you? Laser therapy can significantly speed up the healing process for injuries and provide relief from pain. It is commonly used for:

  • Sports injuries (sprains, tendonitis, muscle strains) – to reduce swelling and promote faster recovery.

  • Joint pain and arthritis – to decrease inflammation in joints like knees, shoulders, or wrists, improving mobility and comfort.

  • Back and neck pain – to relax muscle spasms and calm irritated nerves.

  • Soft tissue injuries – such as plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or repetitive strain injuries.

  • Wound healing – sometimes used to stimulate tissue repair in chronic wounds or post-surgery incisions.

During a laser therapy session, a small handheld device emitting light will be placed on your skin over the target area. You won’t feel much – perhaps a slight warmth at most. Sessions are typically short (a few minutes per area). The therapeutic light energy increases cellular metabolism, which leads to faster regeneration of damaged cells and an anti-inflammatory effect. Many patients notice their pain is less and range of motion improved even after just a few treatments.

Our clinic provides laser therapy as a standalone treatment or as a complement to other therapies (for example, you might get an adjustment or massage and then a few minutes of laser on a particularly sore spot to further encourage healing). It’s painless, quick, and effective for many people – an excellent option especially if you want to avoid medications for pain management.
